Ο Περικλής Χανιώτης (Αλέξανδρος Αντωνόπουλος), ένας σαραντάρης διαζευγμένος δημοσιογράφος, μένει σε μια μονοκατοικία κάπου στου Παπάγου με την καλή μεν, πολύ κτητική δε, μητέρα του Ιουλία (Ντίνα Κώνστα) που του κάνει τη ζωή δύσκολη, χάνοντας τη μνήμη της ή υποκρινόμενη ότι τη χάνει, κανείς δεν ξέρει... Ως μάννα εξ ουρανού προβάλλει η ιδέα να την πάει, για λίγο καιρό, σε κάποιον καλό οίκο ευγηρίας, για να ξαναπροσπαθήσει με την ευκαιρία της απουσίας της, να ξανακερδίσει την πρώην γυναίκα του Χριστίνα (Φωτεινή Μπαξεβάνη). Μετά από άκαρπες συζητήσεις για το κόστος της υπόθεσης με τον πλούσιο, γαλίφη, αλλά αδιάφορο αδελφό του Μιλτιάδη (Ταξιάρχης Χάνος) το επιχειρεί και για πρώτη φορά στη ζωή του νιώθει ελεύθερος! Άλλες οι βουλές όμως της Ιουλίας που, μετά από παραμονή πέντε ωρών και αφού διέλυσε το νευρικό σύστημα της προϊσταμένης του οίκου ευγηρίας, επιστρέφει θριαμβευτικά στο σπίτι της...
